Nigeria has suspended the enforcement of overlapping regulations governing internet platforms, a step aimed at consolidating oversight of one of Africa's largest digital markets. For companies operating across the Africa–Europe technology corridor, the decision signals an effort to reduce the compliance uncertainty that has surrounded Nigeria's expanding but fragmented digital rulebook.
What the directive covers
According to TechCabal, a directive issued on a Tuesday by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy instructs regulators to keep the current regulatory arrangements in place while the government works to harmonise policies. The areas targeted for alignment include internet platforms, artificial intelligence, online safety, and data governance, along with other cross-cutting matters affecting the digital economy.
