Jay Clayton, the individual put forward to lead the US intelligence community as director of national intelligence, faced pointed questioning from senators during his confirmation hearing. According to reporting by The Record from Recorded Future News, lawmakers concentrated much of their attention on Clayton's views regarding the 2020 US presidential election and statements he had previously made about voter fraud.
The director of national intelligence position oversees coordination across the multiple agencies that make up the US intelligence apparatus. As such, confirmation hearings for the role typically span a wide range of national security matters, from foreign threats to cyber defense priorities. In this instance, however, election-related concerns dominated the proceedings.
