Solar power moved to the front of Europe's electricity mix in June 2026, becoming the largest single source of generation on the continent, according to a new analysis from the energy think tank Ember. The shift marks a notable point in Europe's ongoing transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable generation.
A Record Month for Solar
Ember's analysis found that solar installations across Europe produced a record 52 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity during the month, as reported by Electrek. That output was enough to cover roughly 25% of all electricity consumed across the European Union in June 2026. The figure places solar ahead of other generation sources for the period, reflecting both the expansion of installed capacity and the seasonal strength of summer sunlight across much of the region.
