UK-based AgriTech startup EcoNomad Solutions has raised £400,000 (€466,000) to help small livestock farms cut methane emissions, lower energy and fertiliser costs, and convert organic waste into renewable energy.
The round includes £230,000 (€268,000) from the British Design Fund, an Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant, and further backing from existing investor Beeches Group.
The Harpenden-based company's flagship product, the BioNomad, is a patented anaerobic digestion system built for smaller operators. According to Tech.eu, it captures methane that would otherwise be released, turns organic waste into biogas for heating, cooking or electricity, and produces biofertiliser that reduces reliance on chemical inputs. Tech.eu reported that a typical smallholding of around 50 cows may cut energy and fertiliser spending by several thousand pounds per year, depending on operations and usage.
