Visa and M-Pesa have begun testing stablecoin payments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, working alongside pan-African payments network Onafriq, according to reporting by Techpoint Africa. The pilot puts one of the continent's largest mobile money platforms at the centre of a growing effort to bring blockchain-based settlement into everyday transactions.
Why the Pilot Matters
Stablecoins, digital tokens typically pegged to a fiat currency such as the US dollar, have drawn interest from global payment firms looking to speed up transfers and reduce costs, particularly across borders.
