A wide-ranging US housing bill that includes a temporary prohibition on a central bank digital currency (CBDC) is poised to become law, despite President Donald Trump declining to sign it. According to reporting from CoinDesk and Cointelegraph, the legislation is scheduled to take effect at midnight, carrying its CBDC restriction into force alongside the broader housing measures.
What the Bill Does
The measure, identified by Cointelegraph as the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, contains a provision that would bar the US government from issuing a central bank digital currency until the end of 2030. Cointelegraph reported that Trump confirmed on social media he would not sign the bipartisan bill, a step that nonetheless sets the stage for it to become law on Saturday.
