The US Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism has opened an investigation into Roblox, alleging that the gaming platform appears to place revenue and engagement metrics ahead of the safety of its younger users, according to reporting by GamesIndustry.biz and TechPowerUp.
According to TechPowerUp, the inquiry was set out in a letter from John Hawley, chairman of the subcommittee. The letter states that alleged criminal activity on the platform justifies congressional scrutiny.
The Senate letter references figures published by Roblox itself, which reported 65,381 instances of suspected child sexual exploitation during 2025. These reportedly range from kidnapping and sexual assault to bribery and extortion aimed at pressuring minors into producing explicit material. TechPowerUp notes that this figure is more than double the number reported by the company the previous year.
