Comcast has begun rolling out Xfinity Shield, a home protection platform the company describes as first-of-its-kind, according to a company blog post cited by Android Authority. The offering became available starting today.
A central feature of the platform is WiFi-based motion detection, marketed as WiFi Motion. Android Authority reported that Comcast refers to the core of Xfinity Shield as WiFi Shield. The approach positions router and wireless hardware already present in a household as a detection tool, offering an alternative to conventional security cameras and connected sensors.
