Microsoft has attributed recent reports of game crashes and system instability on Windows 11 to peripherals featuring RGB lighting.
According to Tom's Hardware, users experienced random instability after installing the monthly update KB5121003, including games freezing or crashing and, in the worst cases, blue screen errors. After investigating, Microsoft concluded that RGB software installed on affected machines was interfering with core system components, making Windows 11 unstable. The drivers used by these applications can conflict with anti-cheat software, which can lead to game or full system crashes.
Tom's Hardware reported that online multiplayer titles including Arc Raiders, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals were among the most affected. The outlet described a consistent crash pattern in which affected games would hang and stop responding, display an "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" blue screen, and trigger an automatic restart.
