Two Africa-founded cryptocurrency ventures have reported significant growth milestones, according to separate coverage from TechCabal and BitKE.
Bitoshi, which began as a crypto-focused side project run over WhatsApp, has now surpassed 60,000 users and more than $50 million in transaction volume, TechCabal reported. The company was founded by Timilehin Zubair, who started while studying Computer Science at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). As a first-year student, Zubair received a monthly allowance of 15,000 naira (about $11.12) from his parents and sought ways to earn independent income. His early attempts included an Instagram blog and vector art before graphic design became his first venture to generate money. His entry into crypto came in his second year, when a roommate asked him to design a flyer for a crypto business. By the time he finished the design, Zubair had begun trading cryptocurrency himself, buying at one price and selling higher to keep the difference.
