The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) plans to gain direct visibility into stablecoin transactions by running observer nodes on the blockchain networks that carry approved stablecoins, according to TechCabal.
The measure was set out in the bank's Payments System Vision 2028 (PSV 2028), which was unveiled on June 1. An observer node is a computer that connects to a blockchain network and keeps a copy of the shared ledger to monitor activity. Unlike other nodes, it does not validate or submit transactions; its role is limited to watching. Running such nodes would let the CBN see in real time how tokens are issued, transferred, or removed from circulation, rather than relying solely on reports compiled by the companies that issue them.
