Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has signed an executive order establishing a coordinated regulatory framework for the country's virtual assets industry, according to reports from Techpoint Africa and BitKE.
Known as the Presidential Executive Order on Virtual Assets Coordination, 2026, the measure takes immediate effect and sets up a Virtual Asset Council intended to align regulation across multiple government agencies. Citing a statement from the presidency, BitKE reported that the council will be chaired by the Central Bank of Nigeria, with the Nigeria Revenue Service and the Securities and Exchange Commission acting as vice-chairs.
