Payments company Stripe and private equity firm Advent International have jointly proposed acquiring PayPal in a deal valued at more than $53 billion, according to reports from Reuters cited by BitKE and coverage from CoinDesk. If completed, the transaction would rank among the largest fintech acquisitions ever recorded.
The scale of the proposed deal carries weight for the Africa–Europe technology corridor, where both Stripe and PayPal are widely used by merchants, freelancers, and cross-border businesses. Consolidation among global payment providers could reshape the tools that African entrepreneurs rely on to transact with European and international partners, an area where alternatives and pricing remain a live concern for users on the continent.
